Effects of temperature experienced during embryonic development on biomass and C and N composition at hatching in <i>Palaemon serratus</i> (Pennant, 1777)

In decapod crustaceans, the conditions experienced during embryonic development trigger phenotypic plasticity of larvae at hatching. The objective this study was to test effects temperature Palaemon serratus on hatching larvae. We incubated egg-bearing females from eggs laying four temperatures (10, 15, 18 and 20°C). Weight, carbon nitrogen contents were measured newly laid freshly hatched duration negatively correlated with incubation temperature. At 20°C, all abandoned their development. Incubation had no effect weight percentage N hatching, while it did affect C C/N ratio. Embryos 10°C seemed produce fewer lipid reserves than those 15 18°C. They probably overconsumed compensate for metabolic losses due low These results provide information link between maternal investment per egg larval in P. serratus.
